What is Moissanite? 
Moissanite is a synthetic gemstone composed of silicon carbide (SiC), now produced almost exclusively in laboratories. It is considered a valid alternative to diamond due to its high brilliance and superior "fire" (light dispersion), which generates particularly intense colored reflections.
With a hardness of approximately 9.25 on the Mohs scale, it is one of the hardest gemstones available, second only to diamond (10 Mohs). Unlike diamond, which is composed of pure carbon, moissanite has a different crystalline structure that gives it distinctive optical characteristics, including a higher refractive index.
